Bob Folk created a useful and practical method to classify sedimentary rocks. He discovered mineralized nannobacteria (dwarf bacterial forms) in carbonates of the hot springs at Viterbo (Italy). He is a Professor Emeritus of sedimentary petrology at University of Texas . Ph.D. Pennsylvania State College.
